Male circumcision: Think and Read Before You Decide

Dr. Mohamed Adam Eltayeb

Dr. Mohamed Adam Eltayeb is a Consultant in Paediatrics and Child Health, a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), and an advocate for child protection. He has participated in numerous awareness-raising activities and workshops addressing female genital mutilation (FGM) and is one of the founders of the Child Health Office of the British-Sudanese Association of Paediatrics and Child Health (BSAPCH).
Drawing on his edical background and commitment to child welfare, Dr Eltayeb turns his attention in this book to one of the most enduring and debated practices affecting children: male circumcision. Is male circumcision a medical necessity, or a practice passed down through generations?
This book critically examines male circumcision from medical, historical, religious, and ethical perspectives. It explores the benefits attributed to the practice alongside its potential risks and complications, while also discussing the natural functions of the foreskin and the positions adopted by medical institutions.
At the heart of the book is a broader question about the child’s right to bodily integrity and the possibility of allowing him to make his own decision when he is old enough to do so.
Accessible, thought-provoking, and informed by a child-centred perspective, this book encourages parents to seek knowledge and reflect carefully before making a permanent decision about their child’s body, placing health, safety, dignity, and informed choice at the forefront.
